SCG 2023 Policy Conference – REIMAGINE: Multiracial Democracy

April 11 @ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

$150

What is a multiracial democracy? Why do we need an inclusive, multiracial democracy for all communities to thrive? How do we repair racial inequalities in our policies, institutions, and culture?

Our region and state are undergoing profound demographic changes that significantly impact who holds and wields political power. BIPOC organizers and movement leaders have achieved a wave of recent victories with local elections of community-centered leaders and the passage of equity-driven policies representative of a new generation of public officials.

Change, however, is often met with resistance. We’ve seen incredible backlash from groups desperate to maintain the status quo. These groups are engaging in increasingly dangerous behaviors that threaten our democracy, including mis- and disinformation, hate speech, and legislative attacks on our civil rights and liberties.

Philanthropy has an opportunity to protect and strengthen our democracy for the long haul. Achieving long-term systems change will require funders to share power and invest in community-led movements. Sustained community organizing, power-building, and movement funding can increase civic engagement, fight voter suppression, advocate for public policies, and elevate the leadership of marginalized communities.

Creating a democratic system that is representative of all of our communities is a long-term effort that is bigger than any one election cycle or political party. Cross-sector collaboration can deepen democratic practices to move us toward multiracial democracy, and we know that effective co-governance requires a focus on systems change.

Join SCG for our annual 2023 Policy Conference to learn about interventions, prevention, and solutions in co-governance, civic engagement, local journalism, culture, and narrative change. Together, we can bring true multiracial democracy with a policy agenda rooted in racial equity, freedom, and healing.
