FLA’s Carpinteria Smoke-Free Multi-Unit Housing Forum

May 22 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us for our Smoke-Free Multi-Unit Housing Educational Forum! This forum is taking place on Wednesday, May 22nd, from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM (5201 8th St, Carpinteria CA, 93013).

We are meeting to discuss the dangers of second-hand and third-hand smoke in multi-unit housing (apartment complexes) and its impacts on our youth and families. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), there is no safe amount of second-hand smoke exposure, and the home is the main place many children and adults breathe in second-hand smoke. Each year, an estimated 28 million multi-unit housing residents are exposed to secondhand smoke in their homes or apartments that came from somewhere else in their building, like a nearby apartment or vents.

FLA youth will be doing a presentation on how this issue disproportionately affects their families and the Latinx community, who make up a majority of the occupants in multi-unit housing complexes. We will also unveil potential solutions that youth in our city want to implement to ensure the public health of our communities is prioritized.

We look forward to seeing you! Free food will be provided, and participants will be able to enter a giveaway!
