Be an Advocate for Survivors of Sexual Assault! Become a Crisis Intervention Advocate with Standing Together to End Sexual Assault

Become a part of STESA’s Crisis Intervention advocacy!
STESA is currently recruiting volunteers for our upcoming Crisis Intervention Hotline Advocacy Training.
The 60-hour training will begin October 16, 2023 and end December 2, 2023.
-Mondays and Wednesdays virtually from 6:00-8:30 PM over Zoom.
-The following Saturdays in-person from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM:
*October 21 and 28
*November 4,11, and 18
*December 2
(No classes the week of November 20, 2023.)

Once training and certification are completed, Advocates commit to a weekly 6-hour shift on the 24-hour Hotline to provide crisis counseling, information, advocacy and accompaniment to survivors of sexual assault and their families and friends. Advocates also provide support to survivors and their loved ones.

***Because of the nature and intensity of the training program, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications (this is only a summary; for full qualifications please review the volunteer application found at https://sbstesa.org/volunteer/):

Applicants must be at least 16 years old when the Crisis Intervention Training begins.
Applicants must have an interest in assisting sexual assault survivors and their significant others.
Applicants must be willing to uphold STESA’s mission statement, position papers, and philosophy.
Applicants must be willing to participate in additional events to advance the goals of STESA.
Reliable transportation is desirable (including a valid California driver’s license and automobile insurance).
Mobile phone or landline accessibility is desirable (to take Hotline calls from home).
Applicants must have good communication, interpersonal skills, and an ability to work well with people from various cultures and backgrounds. (Examples: race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, age, disability, socioeconomic status, etc.)
Applicants must be able to attend all training sessions.
Applicants must be able to attend monthly advocate meetings.
Applicants must commit to 64 shifts (1 year and ¼ approximately) of volunteering at STESA, consisting of one 6-hour shift per week.
Applicants cannot have a history of perpetrating sexual assault and/or harassment or any unresolved allegations pertaining to a sexual assault.
Sexual assault survivors must be emotionally ready to assist other survivors and be no less than one year past their own assault/abuse experience.
Applicants could not have received counseling services from STESA within the last year.
Applicants with a history of substance abuse disorder must be clean and sober for at least one year prior to training. I have read and understand the qualifications listed above.
