AFP SBV May Professional Development Training: Advocacy for AFP and Beyond
May 19, 2021 @ 11:30 am$10
Join the Santa Barbara-Ventura Counties Chapter of AFP and the FUND for Santa Barbara as we convene a longtime local activist, and expert in the field, and a policy advocate with AFP Global together for a discussion about policy advocacy, knowing your rights to lobby as a fundraiser, which issues are affecting the nonprofit sector nationally, and how to get your organization on board.
Michael Nilsen is Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Public Policy, for the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). He has been with AFP for more than two decades and oversees all communications efforts for the association, working in everything from government affairs and public policy to media relations, marketing, awards, and social media. He was the first full-time lobbyist for the association, advocating in Congress, the Canadian Parliament and various state and provincial legislatures across North America on public policy issues related to fundraising and the charitable sector.
Michael now works to enhance the association’s advocacy and lobbying programs. He is also creating new outreach grassroots initiatives to encourage AFP members and nonprofits around the world to become more engaged in government relations.
